The Audwin and Rae Helton Center for Geographic Information Sciences Laboratory
In December of 2011, the University of Louisville Center for GIS was the recipient of a wonderfully generous gift from Mr. Audwin Helton and his wife Mrs. Rae Helton, of Spatial Data Integrations (SDI) in Louisville, KY. Spatial Data Integrations, Inc. (SDI), is a full service geospatial firm, which offers a wide variety of geospatial solutions that are enabled by utilizing a host of services to collect, analyze, integrate, design and manage data and information linked to location. SDI was founded by Mr. Helton in 1994.
The Heltons have been strong advocates of Geographic Information Systems technology in the community and over the years have hired a number of University of Louisville Geography and Geosciences graduates. Their seemingly tireless devotion to the advancement of GIS in Louisville, and the state of Kentucky, has resulted in an increased awareness of the application of GIS technology to solve real world issues.
Presently, the lab attracts undergraduate and graduate students from multiple disciplines, seeking to empower and augment their research using GIS technologies.
